Fetherstone

About

Having released three albums under her own name in Australia and Japan, hopping between Sydney, New York, Canada and Europe to write, record and tour, Briana Cowlishaw is no stranger to finding new ways to tell stories. Inspired by the artistic lineage of her family (in particular her grandmother Edith Featherstone Cowlishaw), and the creative scene in London, she brings a new project to light – the electronic indie pop-infused Fetherstone. Drawing sonic flavours from the likes of Tom Misch, Lianne La Havas, Mura Masa, Little Dragon, Laura Mvula, Oh Pep! and Katie Noonan, this new offering is an exciting demarcation from Briana's jazz roots. Fetherstone’s breakout single, ‘Don’t Look Back’, released November 2016, became the starting point for her new style of storytelling, detailing the struggle of the artist, and the seemingly endless waiting game for the next opportunity to come along. Produced in collaboration with London native Harry Tarlton (Signed to Kobalt Music Group, Chi), the upbeat, 80s synth-infused track showcases her new electronic direction, while putting her delicate yet powerhouse vocals front and centre. Briana is no stranger to the stage, having performed under her own name since 2008 in New York, South Korea, Singapore, KL, Norway, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and London (Melbourne International Jazz Festival, VIVID Sydney, Urbanscapes KL, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Hemnes Jazz Festival, Chilpo International Jazz Festival). She is known for capturing and mesmerising her audiences using a loop pedal, percussion and electronic drums while she sings her swooping melodies and tells her honest and reflective stories. Briana's shows certainly keep her audiences sitting on the edge of their seat wanting more. Fetherstone's debut self-titled EP was released on April 7th, and will see one track released each month from April through to July. The first track ‘Setting My Soul Free’, was launched at The Troubadour London on the 7th of April, 'Nicole' was released May 5, and the third instalment of the EP 'All You Need To Be' is due for release of June 2. One last track to follow, a new music video on the way and shows to be announced this month, there are some exciting things up ahead for Fetherstone.
