Nineteen Thirty Nines

About

Nineteen Thirty Nines are a post-punk indie group formed by Joe Mallon and Steve Morley in 2008. The two had been writing songs together since their teens but had gone separate ways between 2005 and 2008, during which time Joe was a member of The Vigours in North London.

After The Vigours split, the pair teamed up again and began writing songs from their flat in Hanwell, West London. During this time, Sean Slevin joined on bass guitar and Jay Brannan joined on drums.

The foursome practiced at a venue called the The Peel, built in 1939. The numbers were adorned in the side of the building. Ahead of their first London gig, the band took this as their name. After a period playing successful shows across London, the group went off in different directions before reforming in 2016, with Agne Spudyte-Mallon on bass and vocals.

Now based in Reading, the band have built up a dynamic repertoire of energy-fuelled, guitar-driven, post-punk indie anthems.
