Soft Sports

About

“a completely authentic delivery, believable and engaging with echoes of CSNY, Dylan, The Allman Brothers and Little Feat but with a modern musicality and lyrical flair that will appeal to fans of Tame Impala, Clean Cut Kid or The Magic Gang”
Andy Maclure (Sleeper)

Subtly psychotropic and offbeat, Soft Sports are a three piece band from Brighton using their psychedelic and soul infused folk-rock to tell stories of observational triumph and tribulation in the digital age. Taking inspiration from artists such as George Harrison, Tame Impala and Jonathan Wilson, Donegal born frontman and songwriter Chris Matthewson revives political folk themes. The band, formed from the basis of Chris’ solo project have made a name from themselves in Brighton and the south coast, following the release of their debut EP ‘Somewhere in Between’ and regular headline gigs at some of Brighton’s most renowned intimate venues such as The Prince Albert and The Haunt.

Matthewson has been described as a “truly fine guitar player with an exceptional voice” whose talents are equally matched by the musicianship of bandmates Leo Clarke and Dougal Taylor who play like a perfectly oiled machine. Their captivating on-stage chemistry landed them shows at prestigious London venues last year, such as Ronnie Scotts, Dublin Castle and The Bedford. The band have just released their eagerly anticipated debut single “Gordon” and are set to release the EP in the coming months.
