Stephen Murphy

About

Stephen Murphy is a British singer/songwriter based in South London. He grew up heavily inspired by artists such as Jeff Buckley, The Beatles, R.E.M and Radiohead, which he channels in his music. He started performing regularly in 2018 in London after a lot of interest in his sets at open mic events, at which he played originals and covers on both piano and guitar. After years of writing songs and releasing demos, He produced and released his first album “Novelty” in 2019.

Each song tells a different story across multiple genres, striving for memorable melodies and catchy choruses. Whilst also channelling lyrics that are personal to Stephen over the last few years. There are songs about heartbreak and hanging on to the past, whilst others are based solely on fictional stories Stephen has written. Some with a taste of humour! There are jangly guitars, ambient synths and a range of colourful harmonies featured on his album. A majority of his songs are mostly sung in falsetto, which he sees as his most natural style of singing.

His newest single “Nancy” was released in January 2020 and his 2nd album is due to be released in Summer.
