DEEP DIVE // BEAR WITNESS

With the amount of emerging talent currently bursting onto the scene, it can be hard to keep up with the hottest new acts.

So here at Hot Vox we’re slowing things down and really taking the time to check out one of our favourite new acts.

Bear Witness is the product of brothers Matt (vocals, guitar, bass, synth) and Alex (drums) Georgiou’s dreams to create “as much beautiful noise as possible.” Hailing from Worcester, England, the modern Alternative Electronic Rock duo has always had aspirations to be a Green Day-level of cool. Throughout the years, they have noted acts such as Linkin Park, The Weeknd, Highly Suspect, and Bring Me The Horizon as influences to their music.

Since the band’s rise in 2015, Bear Witness has released 2 EP’s, Dreams of Fame (2018) and Dawn (2019). The band has also released several singles, with the most recent being “Walk Outside” on 26th August. The duo cites Prince and Michael Jackson as the main influences for the track and it definitely delivers. The 3-minute tune effortlessly fuses the bands brand of Alternative Rock with elements of early 2010’s pop into a bright and light-hearted end-of-summer anthem. The pair also released the single’s corresponding music video on 12th September, compiling videos of the band interacting on and off the stage. This video is definitely one that will make you feel good even on the roughest of days.

Whilst releasing music, Bear Witness received guidance and praise from resources such as Total Rock and BBC Introducing, with many citing the band’s ability to combine powerful riffs and monstrous rhythms with compelling lyricism. They have also gotten to work with a few household names in the music industry since gaining more traction in 2020, most notably producer Joel Hamilton (who’s worked with The Black Keys and one of the band’s inspirations, Highly Suspect) and GRAMMY winning mastering engineer Adam Ayan.

2022 has continued to bring success onto the band as they have performed several BBC Introducing live sets, collaborated many times with BBC, and finished as finalists in the Isle of Wight Festival’s New Blood competition. Their love and desire of creating music is shinning prominently and we definitely think that they’re doing their heroes full justice. Catch Bear Witness’ next performance on 20th October at SOK and stay tuned for new music in the future!
