The Famous Company // Unsigned Artist Project
To celebrate the increased successes of unsigned artists like Skepta, The Famous Company has unveiled a unique opportunity for unsigned artists to take part in the creation of a specially commissioned piece of artwork.
After winning last years Mercury Prize, Skepta has taken the crown as one of the industries unsung heroes; instilling hope in unsigned artists by showing them that there are other routes to market. With numerous unsigned artists receiving nominations and awards over the last few years, The Famous Company have joined forces with pop culture artist Nathan Wyburn to create a mosaic image of Skepta made up of small images of unsigned artists from all over the world.
Nathan has worked on a number of high profile celebratory works over the last few years, most noticeably a special mosaic of the Prince of Wales that was presented to him at an event in 2016. Due to the uniqueness of Nathan’s artistic flare and the popularity of his work, he has been featured on several TV shows including Britain’s Got Talent 2011 reaching the semi-finals, Daybreak, Blue Peter, Sky Portrait Artist Of The Year & ITV news. Nathan has also been featured extensively in national and global press including Good Morning America, New York Magazine, PerezHilton.com, Buzzfeed and on the front cover of The Guardian. Big name brands such as Marmite, BIC, Oral B, Costa, Jacobs, Dominoes, Birdseye and Hovis have all independently commissioned Nathan's work.
Ben Rees of The Famous Company said, "This is a really exciting opportunity to create something which celebrates everything which is great about unsigned artistry. We are wanting to feature as many artists in this special piece as possible. Once the piece has been unveiled, we’ll be looking to auction it off to raise money for unsigned musicians in the UK. Everyone who has been immortalised in the piece will also receive a limited edition re-creation postcard."
