HOT VOX - East Street Tap (The Alternative Escape)
It was with great pleasure that last weekend HOT VOX hosted their own afternoon showcasing the finest in up and coming talent from around the UK, at the newly renovated East Street Tap, for The Alternative Escape.
Setting the bar high early on was Brighton based alternative folk outfit, Common Tongues. Reminiscent of Metronomy at times then Stornoway the next, Common Tongues certainly provided an excellent opening set.
From there the fun continued, with Flawes delivering a master class in alternative pop music. Having been billed as one of the most intriguing, innovative bands of 2016 so far, they certainly didn’t disappoint!
However next to emerge were Tangerines, instantly bringing their own riotous, Black Lips esque swagger onstage. With the crowd onside immediately from start to finish, we wouldn’t be surprised if their later show got a tad busier after that performance.
Kicking it down a gear in terms of tempo, but certainly not quality, were Leeds based band The Dunwells. Following on from Tangerines was always going to be an uphill battle, however it seemed to be easily won once they had all of East Street Tap echoing their lyrics back to them.
Closing what was to be a sublime afternoon of live music, were local lads Just Like Fruit. Bringing their own unique brand of rough and ready blues infused Rock ‘n’ Roll, they proved to be the perfect act to bring the curtain on Hot Vox’s Alternative Escape adventure!
