HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH AIDEN DALE
Who is Aiden Dale? Where are you from, how long have you been playing music etc
Ah, I know this one! I'm Aiden Dale - a singer-songwriter from Watford, Hertfordshire. I sing and play acoustic guitar, I've been doing the music thing since I was 14. I find more and more that connecting with others through your songs is one of most rewarding things you can do. I absolutely love it.
Who are your biggest influences musically?
I've always had a soft spot for great songwriters of the 60s like Burt Bacharach, The Beach Boys as well as Simon and Garfunkel. Nowadays I find Kendrick Lamar to be a very on-point lyrically. Justin Timberlake has an amazing ear for melody and groove. My influences are a mess, but I think that's a positive thing
What’s your songwriting process?
Writing a song is like a personal venture for me more than anything. I write about experiences but I try not to get too bogged down in my own emotions. Otherwise it gets kinda tedious. Still, most of my songs are written with a real experience or feeling in mind and I find I always learn a lot about myself through my own lyrics.
When you were younger, what was the first album that blew you away and you remember putting on repeat non-stop?
Trout Mask Replica. I remember staying up on a school night listening to it instead of sleeping. That album is like marmite though - some can't stand it but I'll always love how totally crazy and unique it is. Haters gonna hate.
As a performer, what’s your biggest claim to fame so far?
We filmed the music video for my track Head/Heart in Gospel Oak and came across Michael Palin walking with his wife! I asked him how it sounded and he told me to keep up the good work.
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
It's gotta be Stormzy hasn't it. His humour is spot on. You just know you'd have great fun touring with him.
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
I like to think I put 100% into whatever I do and I'd say my gigs are no exception. I'm a one man show, which I like, it means things can get quite intimate on stage. I'm trying to maintain a strict no glitz/no glamour approach at the moment so you won't hear any loop pedals or backing tracks. Just sauce. Raw sauce.
If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty pleasure artist?
I actually quite like Smash Mouth. I know they're now synonymous with a meme but honestly, Astro Lounge is a solid album. Pretty sure there's a bit of Spice Girls in there somewhere, too...
Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn about you
Probably the fact I love mathcore. Can't wait for ArcTanGent this year. Best festival ever.

When my debut EP drops on the 26th you can go to SoundCloud or use any streaming service to hear it.
Finally, What does the future hold for you as an artist?
I'd like to get very involved in writing, as that's my favourite aspect of music. I'd like to collaborate with as many other musicians as I can without joining a band. I think that would be a great way to grow as an artist. People are always underestimating how much you can learn from other people. Also my EP later this month will help me get my name out there and give me an excuse to do loads more shows so how I'd describe my future is... busy!
