HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH ALICHÈ
Who is Alichè? Where are you from, how long have you been playing music etc
So I came into this world playing music, literally! Mum gave birth to me under the piano in our old little flat in Hammersmith! I'm West London born and bread. Been taking music seriously past few years but I’ve been wailing my head off singing the moment I popped out under that piano.
Who came up with your stage name and does it have a story or any meaning behind it?
My dad has called me Aliche since I was tiny. It’s the Italian pronunciation of my name.
If you had to describe your sound using just five words, what would they be?
Authentic (I think I’ve finally found my sound and style where I’m not trying to mimic anything else).
Rhythmic (in vocals as well as music). Smooth but rhythmic. And inclusive I always want to reach and resonate with as many beings as possible.
Who are your biggest influences musically?
The list is endless and goes through years and years of music. But currently I seriously look up to everything Anderson.Paak does lyrically and musically. I’ve also followed Mahalia's career from when she was YOUNG and I think everything she touches is gold. Of course I’ve got my lifetime influences from years of hip hop and soul like Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu I grew up around a lot of Cuban music too so Buena Vista Social Club too.
What’s your songwriting process?
It really depends, each track is different. sometimes I channel things I’m going through sometimes I come back to situations later and reflect. But every song has a different process which aren't necessarily better than others.
When you were younger, what was the first album that blew you away and you remember putting on repeat non-stop?
That’s a really tough question but I’m gonna say Alicia keys "Songs in A Minor", as well as her other album "The Diary of Alicia Keys".
As a performer, what’s your biggest claim to fame so far?
Haha nowhere near a level where anything big has happened but I uploaded a “Sober” remix fro Mahalia's “Sober” challenge on Instagram and she left some loving comments which made my year cause I ADORE HER.
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
Erykah Badu, not only is she my musical Queen but feel like she'd be the most incredible mentor and just help complete my life aha!
If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from the past or present who would the band members be?
Well my drummer and bassist (Emanuel & Darnell) are the best so they'd still be in my dream band. But if I could bring Miles Davis back to life him on the trumpet and get in Masego on the sax and vocals. Alicia Keys on keys and vocals too!
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
I give a lot of energy and love into my performances. I love to make everyone connect and make them enjoy every second. Its all about the music but also being engaged to the music with amazing musicians who always help me bring my music ALIVE.
Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
Not necessarily any rituals I just make sure I warm up my voice and body. I’m yet to play a gig where I've been noticeably nervous but I’m sure when things grow I’ll have to get into some rituals to calm myself.
What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?
Hmm, that’s actually a difficult one. A quick workout blast to pump me up, and as much as they’ll probably refuse I’d get the band involved too.
If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty pleasure artist?
I can’t think of anything I would consider embarrassing to be honest. I listen to a WIDE range of music. I guess people may be surprised I listen to people like Jeff Buckley and Van Morrison.
Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn about you.
You mean aside from being born under a piano? Well currently, I practise Buddhism!
If people want to check you out online where is the best place to go?
My Instagram and Soundcloud are my most active and relative things to whats going on with me
and they're both @itsaliche or under Alichè
Finally, What does the future hold for you as an artist?
Gonna be releasing more music and just building up content. I want to grow and learn so much so I can't wait to play with other artists to support them in shows and maybe festivals. the future feels bright!
