HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH BARREL BLEND

Who is Barrel Blend? Where you’re from, how you met, how long have you been
playing together etc

We formed in June 2017 after meeting at BIMM music school. Three of us are French
and Hugo, on bass, is from Brighton.

Who came up with the band name and does it have a story or any meaning
behind it?

There were a lot of suggestions, this one was the least stupid! It’s just an homage to
good whiskey.
If you had to describe the band using just five words, what would they be?
Rock, loud, French, booze, whatever

Who are your biggest influences musically?
Hazel: Depeche Mode, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, Pat Benatar,
Chris Cornell... and a recent band that tops my playlist: Stereo Honey.
Hugo: Biggest influences: Jaco, Mike Watt, Jaki Liebezeit, Fugazi, Miles Davis, Philip
Glass

What’s the bands biggest claim to fame so far?
We released our self produced single “Tell Her Why” on January 18, with the help of
Joe Wingfield who mixed and mastered it.
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
Hugo: parquet courts, I reckon they'd be good touring buddies
Hazel: I’d love to tour with Yonaka, I really admire the lead singer’s powerful vocals, full
of charisma.

If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from
the past or present who would the band members be?

Hugo: Dream team band: just Miles Davis and me
Hazel: Miles Davis, Hugo, and that woman who played the scissors onstage with Noel
Gallagher.

How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you
perform before?

Eclectic, each song has a different vibe/ style

Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
Hazel: I always listen to the same four Depeche Mode songs and go mute (always am
extremely nervous before going onstage).

What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being
accused of being a diva?

Hugo: Ultimate rider: maybe some chamomile tea
Hazel: like, anything?...

This question is for all band members. If we were to browse your music library
what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty
pleasure artist?

Hazel: the complete U2 discography. And my ultimate 80’s pop playlist.
Hugo: Guilty pleasure: how you remind me by Nickleback is a good song, it's not even a
guilty pleasure actually.

Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn
about the band?

Hazel: I can lick my elbow with my tongue, Kev speaks parseltongue, you can’t see
Romain’s arms when he drums past a certain speed and Hugo has a weird obsession
with chickens.

If people want to check you out online where is the best place to go?
Facebook/Instagram/SoundCloud

Finally, What does the future hold for the band?
We will start recording more tracks to release an EP during the year, and more gigs.
