HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH DEAN PARKER BAND
Today's Hot Vox Pop Quiz is with Dean Parker Band!
Who are Dean Parker Band? Where you’re from, how did you meet and how long have you been playing together?
The DPB are myself, Dean, and my partners in crime Paul Youngs and Craig Allen, with the occasional appearance of Adrian Folkes! Originally from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, I’ve been playing with the guys now for about 3 years since we all met down here close to London.
If you had to describe the band using just five words, what would they be?
Raw. Big. Mischievous. Grooving. Tasty (musically speaking).
Who are your biggest influences musically?
I'd say my biggest influences on guitar at the moment are country players such as Andy Wood and Guthrie Trapp. For Vocals I really like to try and emulate a bit of Jonny Lang and Richie Kotzen. When it comes to songwriting, Jason Isbell, Jackson Browne and Springsteen .
What’s the band's biggest claim to fame so far?
We had the honour of supporting US blues legend Kirk Fletcher which was just an awesome experience! To see a hero at the back of the room catching your set is crazy.
What’s your songwriting process?
I often try to write down anything that I find interesting or that I can imagine as a cool lyric by an artist that I like. I do the same with music, just write a whole load of stuff, record it and listen back in a few days time. Hopefully there’s something in there that sounds pretty good. Other times it’s just sitting down with a guitar or at the piano and starting something.
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
Without a doubt, The Tedeschi Trucks Band. The combo of Derek and Susan is just spot on and as well as being able to play every night, you’d get to listen to them every night. It would be perfect!
If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from the past or present who would the band members be?
It would be a real mashup. Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes) on vocals, Paddy Milner (Jawbone) on keys, Randy Meisner (Eagles) on Bass and the seriously high BVs, Michael Miley (Rival Sons) on drums and I’d take the team of Coy Bowles and Clay Cook (Zac Brown Band) on guitars. I reckon they could put together some tasty jams.
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
We put everything in to it. It’s not just about us, it’s everyone in the room. We want you to leave feeling something you didn’t when you arrived and to do that we’ve got to get a little crazy.
Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
We don’t! We could do with some though. If anyone has any suggestions, please get in touch.
What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?
Without being a diva? In that case I’d simply have unlimited trays of bruschetta. On and off stage. All night. Pretty rock and roll isn’t it?
If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty pleasure artist?
I am unashamed to say that I love some 80s pop and a some Country Pop every now and then. ‘Love Story’ by Taylor Swift, ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ by Cyndi Lauper, ‘Physical’ by Olivia Newton-John. The list goes on. There’s some killer pop guitar solos out there though!
If people want to check you out online where is the best place to go?

Finally, What does the future hold for the Dean Parker Band?
We’ve got some big things planned! We’re just going to try and keep steering the ship in the right direction and bring you more DPB.
