HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH DUTCH CRIMINAL RECORD
Who is ...? Where you’re from, how you met, how long have you been playing together etc
We are Dutch Criminal Record from the sunny city of Chichester, UK and we formed in 2012. Rio, Joe and Sam were in the same music class at school together whilst Framps (who was also at school with us) joined on drums in January this year.
Who came up with the band name and does it have a story or any meaning behind it?
Alex our first drummer, and one of the founding members, went on a football trip to the Netherlands. As well as playing some football he came back claiming he had a Dutch Criminal Record. The full story we’re not sure of but a unique band name it did provide!
If you had to describe the band using just five words, what would they be?
Melodic, catchy, upbeat, summery, harmonies
Who are your biggest influences musically?
We all like a variety of music which is important. Bands like The Beatles and The Beach Boys are big influences. Then obviously classic indie bands e.g. The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon and Bombay Bicycle Club to name a few.
What’s the band's biggest claim to fame so far?
We supported Royal Blood in early 2013 at The Richmond Arms, Chichester. It seems kind of surreal but we do have the gig poster to prove it!
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
Maybe Coldplay, Sam and Framps are big fans of them and it’d probably be a world tour. The sheer size and scale of the production behind the scenes would be incredible to see every night.
If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from the past or present who would the band members be?
Bernard Purdie on Drums, James Jamerson on Bass, Dave Brubeck on Piano, Chris Thile on Mandolin, Johnny Marr Guitars, Caleb Followill on Lead Vocals with Pavarotti on Backing Vocals performing original compositions by Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney and John Lennon with words by Alex Turner. Eclectic bunch but it would be fun.
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
Non-stop melodic tunes, with interlinking guitars and catchy vocals.
Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
Not really, just making sure everyone who needs a plectrum has one/capo nearby, ear plugs etc.
What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?
Maybe a pool table in the green room would be cool, or a snooker table but I think that crosses the line.
This question is for all band members. If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty pleasure artist?
We live by the concept that you shouldn’t feel guilty about it if the music sounds good however Framps says he feels guilty about listening to Taylor Swift but still loves it.
Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn about the band
This isn’t that shocking I guess but Rio plays violin, Joe plays Trumpet and Sam plays Clarinet. That’s the difficult second album sorted then…
