HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH FABER
Who is FABER? Where are you from, how long have you been playing music etc
I’m from south London – I’ve been playing music since I was a kid. I started playing violin at the wee age of 6 and my love of music has blossomed since then in many different ways and areas.
Who came up with your stage name and does it have a story or any meaning behind it?
I came up with my stage name! (…kind of) FABER means ‘Smith’ in Latin, and the story behind it is that the name was on my Dad’s email address and me and my sister always wondered what it meant. It’s only until recently we found out what it meant and why it was there – and it was around the time I was thinking of rebranding my stage name (I used to be Hannah Marie) and I thought it just fit perfectly.
If you had to describe your sound using just five words, what would they be?
Electrifying soul fused rock
Who are your biggest influences musically?
Skunk Anansie, Beyonce, Paramore, Laura Mvula, BONES, Nothing but Thieves, Led Zeppelin
What’s your songwriting process?
I usually come up with lyrics first (usually when I’m on the train or about to go to sleep (or even in dreams sometimes) and then I come up with melody (sometimes they come simultaneously) Then I put chords to that. Other times, I work with a pianist or guitarist and it all comes together as we go on.
When you were younger, what was the first album that blew you away and you remember putting on repeat non-stop?
Avril Lavigne – Let go
As a performer, what’s your biggest claim to fame so far?
I served Pork balls on a tray to the ‘Take That’ guys once….
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
Paramore or BONES. Their vibes are so sick and powerful and looks like a lot of fun! Plus similar music to mine
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
Prepare to have your mind blown with sass, sexy guitar riffs, and a whole lot of vocal power and energy.
Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
Pre gig rituals would be stuff my face with food. Post gig rituals include stuff my face with food.
What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?
Puppies (call me Mariah Carey), Daim cake, Mango, Fajitas (make sure you provide lots of napkins), Eaton Mess, Halloumi, Olives, Baguettes with Brie and Tesco’s finest ham, room temperature bottled water with bio-degradable straws, breakfast club pancakes, comfy duvets…the list goes on…
If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty pleasure artist?
I’m not really embarrassed by any music I listen to – but I do love my musicals. Lets say the high school musical soundtracks.
Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn about you
When I’m not on stage I’m really shy – the confidence is a persona.
