HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH HALO
Who are Halo?
Halo was formed in 2012 by front man Simon Talbot, Simon advertised for musicians on Join My Band and since then the band has evolved into it's current line up. During this period, the band has produced three albums, all of varying types of rock music. Our latest effort AUREOLE is believed to be the band's best.
Where are you from, how you met, how long have you been playing together etc
Although not originating from London, we are all adopted South East Londoners, the current members have all been recruited via JMB or Gumtree except Matt (Drums) whose music teacher contacted Rogue (Our rehearsal space) looking to find him a gig... Matt was the last to join in January 2018, so nearly a year!
Who came up with the band name and does it have a story or any meaning behind it?
Simon did, I had a Church of England School upbringing, and my first band was a covers band in the West country called the Sun Room. The name Halo just seemed to evolve from this project and a series of nicknames I had at school. Added to this of course, is that the greatest football team on the planet are the Saints (Southampton FC) and part of their emblem is a Halo.
If you had to describe the band using just five words, what would they be?
"Halo Are Even Better Live."
Who are your biggest influences musically?
Jesus... Not the religious figure... Beatles, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, King Crimson, Sabbath, Punk, New Wave, Prog, Grunge, 4AD, The Cure, Japan/Side Projects, Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson + lots more.
What’s the band's biggest claim to fame so far?
I guess initially being signed to Melodic Revolution Records, but also the longevity of the band in the face of quite a few people coming in and out of the band.
What’s your songwriting process?
Inspiration (the songs just come to me) - Recording (rough demo) - Rehearsal (band start to input their style and stamp on it) - Studio Recording (Rogue and here at our own studio) - Production/Mastering - Marketing (us at present)
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
Steven Wilson, as our music would sit well alongside of his style... Also his fans need cheering up before he plays!
If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from the past or present who would the band members be?
I'm not a big fan of super bands, I'd prefer to listen to them as their own entity...
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
"Tight, Energetic and a little more rockier than you probably thought."
Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
Not really, just rehearsals, and a good sound check.
What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?
The Albert Hall!
If people want to check you out online where is the best place to go?
Finally, What does the future hold for the band?
Aureole is our third studio album, and we will shortly be looking at options for our fourth. We would as a group love to play more outside of London, and of course Festivals would be a lovely opportunity to expose more people to our music and sound.
