HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH LUCY BLU
Who is Lucy Blu? Where are you from, how long have you been playing music etc
I’m a Country singer and songwriter from Romford in Essex. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, and have been writing, producing and performing my own original songs for about 4 years.
If you had to describe your sound using just five words, what would they be?
Something old and something new
Who are your biggest influences musically?
I’ve been very heavily influenced by the singing style of Country Rock icon Linda Ronstadt. My dad used to play the trio albums at home all the time featuring her, Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton, and as a child I was always drawn to the songs that featured Linda as the lead vocalist.
More recently, my songwriting has been influenced by Kacey Musgraves, Brandy Clark and Cam. All three of these female artists are so exceptionally clever lyrically, and listening to their music always gives me the urge to pick up a pen and a guitar and write.
When you were younger, what was the first album that blew you away and you remember putting on repeat non-stop?
I have always been a HUGE Michael Jackson fan. Even donning the famous black hat and white glove to dance around at like three years old - so I would have to say either Thriller or History by Michael Jackson.
As a performer, what’s your biggest claim to fame so far?
It’s either got to be performing at the Hard Rock Cafe in London, which was a fantastic night, where I got to share the stage with some incredible other performers, or more recently, when I received a personal video message from one of my FAVOURITE American Country artists after she saw me covering one of her songs online.
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
I reckon it would be Old Dominion. I saw them live earlier this year and their shows are just so full of energy and spectacle. I’ve also met them in the past and they seem like they’d be lots of fun to tour with!
If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from the past or present who would the band members be?
Drums - Ringo Starr
Bass - Dougie Poynter (with his light-up bass)
Lead Guitar - Eric Clapton
Backing Vocals - The Eagles
Dance Captain - Michael Jackson’s choreographer ;)
So not asking much then….
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
Songs with stories. Combining a little bit of old-style Country with a little bit of new. And maybe the odd awkward joke from yours truly...
Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
Pre-gig getting ready will almost always consist of some form of glitter, whether it’s makeup, clothes, or hair. When I get in after a gig I ALWAYS like to have a cup of tea. Super rock n roll.
What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?
A PS4, a 4K TV to play it on, a fresh Italian meal, and a box of Guylian ;)
If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty pleasure artist?
You will find a little bit of EVERYTHING in my music library. Obviously, there’s a heck of a lot of Country in there. There’s also a LOT of Disney and cheesy 90s tunes - but I’m definitely not guilty about either of those!
Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn about you
As a teenager, I appeared in a Harry Potter film. You can spot me during the Battle of Hogwarts doing lots of running and cowering!
If people want to check you out online where is the best place to go?
They can check out my site www.lucybluofficial.com which pretty much has the links to all of my stuff. I’m also around on all the usual social media, streaming and download avenues; Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, iTunes, and Spotify.
Finally, What does the future hold for you as an artist?
This year has already been so fantastic for me. Releasing my new single ‘Worse Than Whiskey,’ which hit #7 in the iTunes Country Chart, and has since been added to some great Spotify playlists and played on National radio. The plan from here is to release another single shortly, all while working on my debut album for later this year. I’m also due to appear at a number of festivals over the summer, which I’m really excited about.
Long term - if I can make a living doing what I love, there’s not much else I can ask for. Except for World Domination - that’s also on the cards….
