HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH NERVES
We caught up with Jack from NERVES ahead of their headline show with us at The Underbelly on the 21st November! Here's what they had to say:
Who are Nerves? Where you’re from, how you met, how long have you been playing together etc
There’s four of us, Jack Evans on vocals, Jack Cosson (me) on guitar, Mike Wood on bass and Josh Upil on Drums. Myself, Mike and Josh met at college and used to mess about in the shed in my back garden every so often. Nothing too serious, we used a lot of my Uncle’s old equipment to start with and a mate lent us his electric drum kit. I barely knew how to tune a guitar at that point. We met Jack Evans a few years later and started going to a rehearsal room in South West London at the back end of 2017. We all currently live in London.
Who came up with the band name and does it have a story or any meaning behind it?
I came up with the band name. To be honest it doesn’t have much of a story to it. We knew we wanted a name that was just one word and I think sometimes you can overthink a band name. So when I suggested NERVES we just stuck with it.
If you had to describe the band using just five words, what would they be?
Big ball of nice fun
Who are your biggest influences musically?
Rage Against The Machine, IDLES, Drenge, Nirvana
What’s the band's biggest claim to fame so far?
I once met Ian Wright at a petrol station just outside of Portsmouth
What’s your songwriting process?
We all come into rehearsals with ideas and throw them at eachother. Usually it starts with a riff or a set of lyrics. Our first couple of songs almost came about by accident. We didn’t really know where to start so we just improvised. Fear & Dread came out of a session like that.
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
IDLES, Shame, Drenge, Slaves, Strange Bones they’re all absolutely incredible bands. We’re big fans.
If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from the past or present who would the band members be?
Kurt Cobain (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Flea (Bass), Jack White (Lead Guitar), Matt Helders (Drums)
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
Funny, fast and energetic
Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
Pints, pacing and pissing because I’m a nervous wreck
What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?
FIFA 19 and a crate of Fosters
This question is for all band members. If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty pleasure artist?
Careless Whisper has had an embarrassing amount of plays on my Spotify.
Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn about the band?
We’re not virgins
If people want to check you out online where is the best place to go?
‘Put A Plaster On It’ is on all major streaming platforms so whichever your preference you should be able to find us on there. Also head over to our Social Media accounts that’s where all the news, gig announcements, new music etc is posted

Finally, What does the future hold for the band?
I hope we get to the point where we can stop begging our friends and family to come to our gigs to save us from empty rooms. I’d like to see a crowd of unfamiliar faces getting sweaty, dancing and singing our songs back at us.
