HOT VOX POP QUIZ WITH SHAMELESS
Today's HOT VOX Pop Quiz features Shameless!
Who are Shameless? Where you’re from, how you met, how long have you been playing together etc
Shameless was originally born from Dylan and Andrew, both doing guitar and vocals and who had been playing together for several years, and the former bassist. We were lucky enough to meet Chris at college. From the moment we got him behind the kit he just clicked. We’re currently working with a new bassist for our upcoming hotvox show but are yet to decide on a permanent fixture.
Who came up with the band name and does it have a story or any meaning behind it?
The day before our first gig, we'd only been a band for 3 weeks and we still didn't have a name for the band. After thinking up a fair amount of crap ideas, Dylan's mum announced "What about Shameless?". And it stuck.
If you had to describe the band using just five words, what would they be?
Energetic, innovative, exciting, bloody fun
Who are your biggest influences musically?
This is a great question. Collectively we take from a lot of great artists as a band. Musically there's major influences from Green Day especially from Andrew and a lot of gritty blues tones like that of Slash from Guns N Roses or John Mayer that can usually be found coming from Dylan's direction. Along with a group admiration for a wide variety of greats ranging from the indie sounds of arctic monkeys and oasis to lyrical inspiration from the likes of bob Dylan and Johnny cash and everything in between, the end result is something creative and new while still holding onto the roots that remain timeless.
What's the band's biggest claim to fame so far?
We don't actually have a real claim to fame as a band, So all we can claim is just that we bring a genuine, sincere performance to the stage every time we hit it.
What’s your songwriting process?
We don’t really have a writing process. We’re always writing and the process is constantly changing. Even when we’re not practicing as a complete band.
If you could go on tour with any current band or artist, who would it be and why?
Either Green Day or Pearl Jam. They've both influenced us quite a lot and we're all fans of their music, as well as this letting us play some awesome venues all over the world. On the other hand Billie Eilish, as she's probably the biggest music star currently. So we'd end up earning a pretty decent pay check!
If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from the past or present who would the band members be?
Slash on lead guitar, Bille Joe Armstrong doing rhythm and backing vocals, Eddie Vedder as the front man, Flea on bass, Mike Portnoy on drums, Ray Pearce on keys.
How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?
Shameless hit the stage with an impact energy that doesn’t let off while delivering their own works and crowd favourite covers. Our unique sound is a brilliant blend of driving rhythms, enticing harmonies and absolutely electric guitar riffs in a display that can only be believed when seen.
Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?
More alcohol than you’d think is safe for human consumption, unless you’re Chris, who’ll have a lemonade.
What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?
Again, probably more alcohol that human beings are fit to consume in such a short space of time, along with a line of dancing girls, the contents of a police confiscated drugs locker, pizza obviously and ham and cheese crisp sandwiches especially for Chris. And maybe a Shameless mascot. Can we get a mascot?
This question is for all band members. If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find? Or who is your guilty pleasure artist?
Andrew’s guilty pleasure artist is Take That, Chris’ is ABBA, Dylan’s is Young Thug or the 1975 and Sebastian’s is XXXTENTACION.
Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn about the band.
There’s not much fans would be surprised to know about us. We try to be honest about ourselves and not keep anything from them. Andrew and Dylan used to play on a irish folk band. In which Andrew was known to show off his mandolin skills for the crowd.
If people want to check you out online where is the best place to go?
Our Instagram (@officiallyshameless) is great place to follow us we keep it the most up to date and is frequently updated. If you’re looking for a sneak peak into our shows the YouTube is great (@officiallyshameless again) and we'd tell you all to find our soundcloud and watch that space.
Finally, What does the future hold for the band?
In the immediate future we wanna give out a great performance on the 21st and after we’ll be releasing a couple singles while we work on what will be our debut album. In the long term our journey as a band is all about honing our sound and discovering new ways to deliver the best performance possible, while making sure both our sound and performance is constantly being innovated looking for new ways to create and connect with an audience and listeners. Especially for our headline slot at glastonbury. Oh and maybe a big fuck off choir.
