It is almost impossible to confine the music of Elk to one single genre. Drawing on a wide variety of influences, including Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Daughter and a whole host of 80s gems, which have all fused to produce their latest EP 'Specimen'.
Specimen was written in an attic in rural Shropshire, a place where they could explore space, texture and transformation. A decade of making music together built a strong foundation but they have all evolved, musically, since then. The EP was mastered by Cem Oral (NIN, Gwen Stefani, Coldcut etc) at Jammin Masters studios in Berlin. The artwork is by contemporary artist Matthieu Leger.
"Specimen doesn’t define Elk but rather sets out their stall in terms of skilful musicianship and unbounded innovation. By taking this unorthodox adventure into unmapped soundscapes, Elk have shown they are willing risk-takers and fearless experimentalists who put originality ahead of populism." - Fresh On The Net
