PEERLESS PICK OF THE WEEK: THE RPM'S
Formed in Dorset and emerging from the Brighton scene, The RPM’s have utilised their indie sound to take the music industry by storm! These childhood friends Jack Valero (lead vocals and guitar), Callum James, (drums and backing vocals) took their talent to Brighton, where they were joined by Migue Cosme (bass guitar) and they released their debut EP, ‘Digital Disobedience’ in 2016. Gaining early momentum, the band wasted no time and by 2017 they released their second EP, ‘Agents of Change’ in 2017, courtesy of Xtra Mile Recordings. After adding Chris Bowden (keyboard) and Ollie Summers (lead guitar) the band expanded to a five piece, creating a larger live sound in a more ambitious, sonic direction.
The RPM’s single, ‘Let Things Happen’ flows effortlessly into their steadily evolving plot together as a band: their London debut for Abbie McCarthy - Good Karma Club; their SXSW debut; being chosen by Huw Stephens as one of his Alternative Tips for 2018; their first Radio X-Posure session and inclusion on R1’s Best Of BBC Introducing Playlist. This single has raised the bar for this young Brighton band, following the success of their previous single ‘Your Ghost,’ this single is firmly cast in the mould of Indie Pop, fusing contemporary song writing sensibilities with fluttering keyboard sounds, intertwined with melodic guitars. The lead singer Jack Valero described the thought behind the track, “it’s about how sometimes In life you have to sit back and go with the flow and is very much based on where we are as a band. You face many difficult obstacles in life especially when you’re in a band and it’s all about how you overcome them and carry on, just like it says in the chorus ‘Pick up and start again.’
The RPMs are set to tour extensively throughout Spring and Summer in support of ‘Let Things Happen’ and their third single for 2018, ‘Gotta Let Go’ which was for released on 20th of July 2018 via Xtra Mile Recordings.
