Situated smack bang in the middle of Soho, the Spice of Life has had a blend of iconic names through its doors over its long history. Now The Imperial College Big Band makes it debut at the Spice of Life Soho with a set full of swing, Latin, and funk. Blending classic big band sounds with fresh arrangements, the band brings lively ensemble playing and great solo features for a night of top-quality jazz.

Featuring a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and medics, ICBB showcases the depth of talent within the community, delivering a dynamic repertoire spanning from classic swing to contemporary funk and fusion. The ensemble is directed under the helm of Chris Dean, the current director of the esteemed Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and a seasoned musician in his own right, having recorded with music icons like Frank Sinatra and Quincy Jones.

A pub that has truly stood the test of time… surviving two world wars and retaining its traditional charm. As well as being a listed building, The Spice of Life also has an esteemed musical heritage.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s the venue saw many great acts of the time, such as Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Bert Jansch, The Strawbs and Sandy Denny performing here. Then in the heyday of punk in the late 70’s The Spice of Life became a regular haunt for many punk musicians and followers, including The Sex Pistols. In the late 90’s a thriving Jazz Club started up at The Spice, and has attracted many top acts, such as Jamie Cullum, Soweto Kinch, Darius Brubeck & Daryl Sherman.
