Jon Cohen has been at the service of the Montreal music scene for over a decade as guitarist for The Dears, Social Register, JF Robitaille and Panoramic & True. Jon formed his own band in 2006. Since then his music has charted countrywide hitting top spots in various Canadian cities. His sophomore album, “Behold”, featured members of the Dears, The Stills, Broken Social Scene and Stars and Elephant Stone and the title track was recently used in an episode of Black Mirror (Zeppotron-Channel 4). Jon has already amassed a large catalogue of media accolades and his music endeavours have recently been featured on BBC Radio 4 with Tom Ravenscroft.

“ZEN & MOTORCYCLES”, JCEX’s 5th album (EP), contains 8 new hypnotic, beat-driven songs with catchy hooks and danceable beats. Written on tour across America in 2016, the EP was innovatively recorded live off the floor with added studio overdubs. The new album is titled Zen & Motorcycles, is a mixture of eclectic styles (Folk, Rock, Psychedelic and Indie). It was recorded by Dave Draves at Little Bullhorn (Kathleen Edwards, Julie Doiron, Jim Bryson) and mastered by Jett Galindo at the Bakery (Green Day, Neil Young, Sam Roberts).

Cohen and band have spent the better half of the last four years touring solo and travelling coast-to-coast across Canada, the USA, the UK, Europe and Scandinavia, playing hundreds of shows and festivals including SXSW, Pop Montreal, Oliofest, NXNE, CMW and more recently performing at Sled Island and Iceland Airwaves. JCEX’s high-energy live shows have garnered him much buzz from audiences and press alike. He has supported acts including Brasstronaut, Mini Mansions, (Queens of the Stone Age), Bloodshot Bill, The Dropkick Murphys, Khaira Arby, Oneida, Wax Mannequin, Rich Aucoin, Moulettes, Justin Ruthledge, Elephant Stone, Lydia Loveless, Geoff Berner, Wax Mannequin, Laura Barrett, Bloodshot Bill, Khaira Arby, Sean Lennon and many others. Cohen’s tours (both with band and as One Man Band) are well documented in his popular tour blog “www.thejcex.com”.

For the last few years, Jon has been busy organizing the One Man Band Festival, an annual four-day Montreal music festival he founded in 2012, which showcases the talents of one (wo)man bands the world over. The festival has hosted over two hundred solo artists including Steve Hill, Rich Aucoin, Pearson Sound, Bob Log III etc., and been the subject of three documentaries, including one for RIDM Festival and for the BBC.

Jon now plays and tours with full band which now includes a GuZheng a traditional Chinese harp instrument that adds an exotic and somewhat outerworldyy element to his music. His band will be touring throughout Canada, US & UK in spring of 2017, see website for show details.
