Singer Songwriter Liam McClair was inspired to write music as a teenager living in Wilmslow, spurred on by going to see James Morrison and Paolo Nutini and being inspired by their crafted music that was popular but not too saccharine. Having learnt piano from an early age; Liam turned his attention to the guitar and began to write on both instruments which saw him begin showcasing his original music aged 17 in Manchester. Studying in Liverpool brought a whole new area of inspiration from the obviously iconic and treasured band The Beatles through to The Coral and the buzzing unsigned scene helped Liam develop as a writer and performer and saw him perform at Liverpool Sound City 2013.
After leaving university Liam got heavily involved in the Manchester music scene performing everywhere and anywhere in order to help him to improve and expand his following. His first EP How was greeted with a warm admiration and then Honey, the next EP allowed Liam to put his performing into practice at a headline gig at The Castle Hotel. Inbetween EP’s Liam released a single Time With You in aid of Francis House Children’s Hospice after the charity chose Liam after seeing him supporting Newton Faulkner as part of an event to raise money for the Didsbury based charity. Liam’s music progressed from tracks for a guitar and vocal to a full band sound and this was showcased with the Honest EP, recorded with Fred Cox at The Hutch Studios in London and launched to a sold out Gulliver’s with a UK tour to follow. It proved to be Liam’s most successful release to date garnering support from BBC 6Music, Radio X and BBC Introducing so much so Liam was invited to perform at their showcase event at The Ruby Lounge in 2015 alongside Nude and Man Made. The success of the Honest EP ran parallel with Liam’s success as a support act, opening for Echo & The Bunnymen at Holmfirth Picture drome in front of 750 people led to the band asking Liam back for 4 more dates including a show at the Liverpool Philharmonic hall. Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch was so impressed with Liam he invited him to tour with him as part of his run of acoustic shows up and down the UK. Continuing in the same vein Liam went onto support Kimberly Anne, Blossoms, Jake Isaac, Sam Duckworth (Get Cape Wear Cape Fly) Frances, Shannon Saunders, The Lottery Winners and Billy Bragg.
Liam’s biggest sold out show to date came in May 2016, it was for the release of his single Hunted at Manchester’s The Deaf Institute. The singles release was followed up with a UK tour including a performance at Dot 2 Dot in Nottingham, Kendal Calling, The Isle Of Wight and a headline tour of Germany. The Fix It EP brings together previous singles Fame, Hunted and We Should Talk. Fix It and We Should talk were recorded with free studio time at Astar studios with Mercury award winning producer Andy Ross. Liam won the recording time after he was voted Stockport’s finest with the most votes; considering he is a solo artists up against bands it was a great achievement and a testimony to his fan base. We Should Talk was released in aid of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) in late 2017.
