The Shrives

About

With traditional rock’n’roll anthems in short supply at the moment, the art of songcraft is safe in the hands of vocalist Matt Grocott and guitarist Josh Horsfall, childhood friends who founded the band in 2014 in their home town of Grantham. After going on DIY toilet circuit tours and self-releasing demos the band discovered that they had a famous fan. Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day flew the band to Oakland, California and produced their debut album “Back In The Morrow”, even playing bass on a few of the tracks.

The euphoria of recording in esteemed company in Hollywood hit an uncaring wall back in rainy Blighty. Unable to find a label for their ambitious debut, the band self-released the album in early 2017. Favourable press followed, and the experience cemented The Shrives’ will to survive and to continue to plough their own musical furrow.

In September 2017 the band went into the studio in London and, working with producers The Animal Farm, recorded a string of new singles. The musicianship of Josh Horsfall, Henry Claude and Joe Michelson is evident on the tracks. Cascades of glistening riffs, grooving bass and driving drums provide the perfect backdrop for Grocott’s soulful voice to glide over.

Still only in the early 20s, The Shrives have done the mileage, got the t-shirt and have the scars to prove it. It’s what rock bands are made of and as Kerrang! said it:

“Keep your eye on The Shrives!” – Kerrang!
