The Empty Page

About

Taking their name from a Sonic Youth song inspired by Jack Kerouac, 90s alt-punk inspired Northerners The Empty Page (Kel – Vox/bass, Giz – Guitars and Jim – Drums/Vox)have been making steady headway since their inception in a draughty warehouse in Ancoats, Manchester.

Following an invite from rock production royalty Gggarth Richardson (RATM, Biffy Clyro, Melvins), their debut album, ‘Unfolding’ was recorded with him in Vancouver, Canada, with tracks receiving national airplay by the likes of Steve Lamacq on 6 Music.

As well as diligently ticking their favourite UK venues off their collective wish list, from Manchester Ritz to Hebden Bridge Trades, the band went back to Canada to play shows in Toronto after winning Indie Week UK. Carefully selected UK shows are planned for 2019.

‘The Pixies do Britpop…kinda.. and the results are pretty magnificent’ Louder Than War.

‘Informed by the likes of Bikini Kill or Veruca Salt… with their percussive chassis recalling Fugazi’s righteous fury.’ Clash Magazine.

“Capable of cathartic fury ala Meredith Graves, Kel can also jam a touch of melody in there that tempers the raucous energy with something ever so infectious. It’s a rare and raw talent. Colour us impressed.” Overblown Zine

“A band that have more passion than a full Top 30 chart worth of blandishments” mp3hugger

“Brash and uncompromising alt-punk for the greyest of skies and the toughest of times…” God Is In The TV

Their newest offering ‘When The Cloud Explodes’ came out on Feb 22 2019. It is a paean to the North. A sort of love song. ‘Anyone that has ever spent much time in the North-West can attest to the fact that it’s always bloody raining’, says singer/bassist Kel, ‘I think that’s one of the reasons why cities like Manchester and Liverpool are full of creatives. There is so much art, poetry, literature and music here. It’s because we’re always stuck inside having to find novel ways to entertain ourselves.’

A limited edition 7” on orange vinyl (with Gggarth produced b-side Wardrobe Malfunction) is available on vinyl only label Punk Fox records and is selling very quickly with Rough Trade currently out of stock and a waiting list anticipating it.

The song has already been applauded by bloggers and press all over the world and has received airplay from Steve Lamacq and Gideon Coe at 6 Music and inclusion on Spotify curated The Punk List, Rough Trade’s Counter Culture playlist and many more besides.
