The Bid are a 5 piece indie-folk band from Warrington, Cheshire – a traditional Northern town comfortably sandwiched between Manchester and Liverpool.
The Bid’s style mixes Americana-folk with a British indie sensibility: imagine a Tennessee dive bar was dropped into a Northern council estate, creating a sound the Manc Review describe as “classically chiselled whilst creating a refreshing and original sound”.
BBC Introducing Merseyside featured The Bid’s Demo track ‘Make It Happen’ on their ‘Producer’s Picks’ and have received great support from Warrington’s flagship radio station, Wire FM, While their debut single has been featured on several stations across the UK and earned them a full hour feature and interview on Radio Warrington’s Wire Exposure show.
The story…
Frontman Joe Hatton moved from busking in the lanes of Brighton to his hometown of Warrington 6 months after meeting North-Londoner Lindsay Hatton and deciding that £4.70 a pint was just a little too rich for their blood. After packing up a hired transit van, they headed up north. Jump to 2018 when Matt Selman joined on bass.
They spent weeks working on Joe’s catalogue of songs, and although drummers were scarce in Warrington, they began playing with a few sessions players from further afield, performing under Joe’s name.
They finally became The Bid in June 2018 when Ad Jenks Joined on Drums. They felt that the band now demanded its own identity. Since then, The Bid have created a sound that juxtaposes foot-stomping beats with lyrics influenced by the working class lifestyle to create a series of quirkily melancholic melodies that reflect life in the North West today.
Over the winter months, The Bid headed out on a UK tour that seen them play Manchester, Northwich, Wigan, Leeds, Sheffield, Warrington, London and more promoting their single ‘Don’t Wait’ (Available on all digital stores and streaming services) to packed out venues across the country.
