Blackout Season

About

Formed in late 2016, Armagh-based post punk alt-rockers Blackout Season is a band oozing with intent.
In their first active year the trio recorded two EPs and secured several festival slots – a meteoric rise set to continue as the band develops.
Frontman Alex Close and former drummer Peter McCabe were joined by bassist John Morgan in the autumn of 2016 to mark the beginning of a prolific year for Blackout Season.
In March 2017 the trio released the feedback EP and secured appearances at Bluesberry Festival in Warrenpoint and the Narrow Water Arts Festival. BBC’s ATL selected lead track System as Track for the Day, hailing the band’s “gruff and rough…no- nonsense attitude.”
An acoustic set at Oktoberfest at Shamrock Park in Portadown and support slots with local heavy weights Indominus and Wardomized secured Blackout Season’s status as a band to watch on the Northern Irish scene.
In late 2017 the trio recorded their second release, The Basement EP, at Armagh’s Amma Centre with acclaimed producer Niall Totten.
From the release of the second EP, the band recently obtained a supporting slot with Chicago typewriter, in the pavilion bar, Belfast. From this a homecoming gig and several local shows were played!
During the summer of 2018 they launched their single ‘Black Lipstick Girl’. From the incredible response it received the band embarked on a small independent 3 week tour (tour de blackout) covering Lurgan, Lisburn, and Belfast headlining and supporting!
Most recently the band parted ways with Peter and welcomed new drummer Jack Luke.
They have been recording new material with their new direction and sound while working with Musicians Against Homelessness in aid of the Simon Community playing in McHughs bar in November 2018 and in the Oh Yeah Centre Belfast in February 2019. The band have also secured a bi-monthly residency in their local bar ‘Fa Joes’.
