Cecelia

About

A native southern Irish girl, Cecelia swapped the Green Isle for the big smoke in 2009 when she moved to study at the London School of Musical Theatre. An actress from her youth, Carrie Baxter’s love of the stage swiftly landed her in London’s prestigious live music scene, simultaneously landing herself in songwriting collaborations with both garage and Drum & Bass heavy weights. Mixing Jazz and soul- drenched melodies into a melting pot of Dilla and Erykah Badu-esque beats, Cecelia comes with a distinctively sweet vocal style that is distinctively hers, already supported by the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Majestic Casual and The Music Ninja. Cecelia’s first solo release comes in the form of a nostalgic love letter to the illusions of life and her search for respite in jazz and hip-hop. Placebo displays Cecelia’s unique narrative vocal style perfectly; at points almost crossing into spoken word flow. Backed by a musical homage to contemporaries and heroes such as Amy Winehouse, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino, the mixtape smoothly swings her away from feature vocalist territory into the world of artistry with style and flair. Whereas many rely on production to bolster their story, Baxter’s honest vocal performance and authentic narrative throughout the mixtape plays a solid foundation for an illustrious artist career to come.
