David & The Circumstances

About

Singer-songwriter David & The Circumstances writes songs about existential questions, light, darkness and the twilight in between. His lyrics explore the unclear borderline between “me” and “the circumstances”, the river and the sea, perfection and imperfection. Serene guitar- and pianosounds support his poetic message. His influences include: Radiohead, Bright Eyes and Bob Dylan.

David has been the frontman of indie rockband The Circumstances since 2008. He graduated in 2012 from the Conservatory of Rotterdam, where he studied music for four years. In 2013 he decided to record a solo album under the name David & The Circumstances. Containing acoustic guitar fingerpicking, minimalistic piano parts, ethereal backing vocals, and subtle ebow-sounds, the album has a quiet and introspective character. Performing as a solo artist, he has played various venues, like Rotown in Rotterdam and Melkweg in Amsterdam, numerous small venues and open mic’s in New York City and performed on Dutch national radio 3FM and Radio1. The music video for “Is It Not You” (the first single of the album) was recorded in New York City with designer/filmmaker Tanya Gupta.

Debut album “This Part Of Me” was released on January 29th 2015 by Rotterdam based label Elevate Records, receiving laudatory reviews in the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. This Part of Me was voted 2nd best album of 2015 in Rotterdam by the Dutch music platform 3voor12.
In July 2016 David moved to London, where he has already played at dozens of venues, like Ronnie Scott’s, Battersea Arts Centre and The Bedford. He is now working on new songs for his next album.
