Day Flower

About

The formation of the group was accidental and gradual. It started in 2013, when five musical misfits with a shared love of obscure '90s shoegaze and lo-fi pop got chatting outside a music venue in Leicester. Soon after, they began meeting to trawl through the absurdities of Youtube's underbelly, discuss HBO programmes and occasionally record a song. Then another song. And more songs.

Despite none of them ever intentionally 'forming a band', Alex, David, Chris, Johnny and Calum somehow found themselves making music together, and they haven't stopped yet.

Their self-released single Heart Shaped Tambourines received its debut airplay on 'BBC Introducing', with DJ Dean Jackson (the man who discovered Jake Bugg) telling listeners he 'adored' it. Dean also predicted Dayflower's music would be 'spreading to the rest of the BBC' soon. He was right. Not long after,Tom Robinson selected the track for his BBC6 programme and the Fresh On The Net blog.
Early live shows have included support slots for Dublin noiseniks Girl Band, Super Furry Animals' offshoot Gulp, Frankie & The Heartstrings and PinkShinyUltraBlast
