About
Derek Darker is an Irish singer/songwriter from Dublin, Ireland. Currently based in London he is emerging as a strong talent on the gigging scene having played at both the Olympic and Paralympic Open Days in 2012. Taking influence from Emeli Sande, Maverick Sabre, Ed Sheeran, James Morrison, Jessie Ware and other artists renowned for their ability to deliver powerful lyrics, charismatic performances and capture an audience with as little as a guitar and vocal, at the core of Derek Darker is his combination of songwriting skills and soulful vocals.
Since beginning to gig in April 2012 he has added some fine venues to his name having gigged in some of the most famous bars and clubs in London (Kensington Roof Gardens, Freedom Soho, Camden Proud). It is not just his original music that is getting him noticed online as in December 2012 he was selected by Gigwise and BBC Live Lounge to compete amongst the best cover versions of 2012. He placed overall 3rd out of all selected. Already having some live radio sessions under his belt as well as much recognition for solo debut song 'Standing Alone' he is currently working on a 4 track E.P set for release in Spring 2013.
