Edmund Stubbs

About

Edmund writes folk songs with a dreamy, epic, quality that you might associate with large indie bands. He has always been inspired by groups with a ‘big sound’ (the type you might easily imagine playing a huge stadium) but at the same believes it is hard to keep the presence of a lot of personality and intimacy when you make that kind of music. Bands like the Maccabees, Alt J, Radiohead and The Verve have been huge influence on the type of music he makes, but he also admires folk artists such as Johnny Flynn, Shakey Graves and Folk-Indie bands such as the Cave Singers and The Shins. It feels they are speaking to you a lot more directly; like they are sitting in your living room.

He has set out to see if he can meet the two sounds in the middle, conveying how my tiny personal experiences, which mean nothing to anyone else, seem huge to hismelf as is certainly the case for absolutely everyone. Individual experiences are epic to each of us.

Edmund often addresses how society is disillusioned with religion. People don’t really know what to worship anymore. Instead of plunging into misery, he wants to show that we can still be positive, still share values and still think there is purpose to what we do; that there is still a lot to worship in a disorganised sort of way.
