Extra is the brainchild of Albert Clarke. It’s a project that draws influence from a range of artists, old and new, blending them into quirky, melodic, authentic songs with a distinct London sound. Think the kitchen-sink realism and personal/political lyricism of Ray Davies (The Kinks) and Matt Johnson (The The), the melodies of Fleet Foxes, and the groove of Curtis Mayfield, all condensed into the directness of a two-minute Supremes single.
These are pop songs for the 21st century. You’ve never heard anything quite like it, but somehow it still feels familiar. That is Extra!
