Invisible Vegas

About

INVISIBLE VEGAS are a 4-piece rock band from Oxford, with an original repertoire of emotive, melodic songs influenced by classic UK and American rock and blues. The origins of the band lie in the songwriting of lead singer Alex Colman and Invisible Vegas have for some years been the vehicle for his creativity and love of live performance. The current line-up dates from 2013 and INVISIBLE VEGAS have been featured frequently on the online station ‘Best of British unsigned’ as well as gaining airplay and performing live on BBC Radio Oxford. The band are playing to warm receptions in London and the South of England, at gigs such as the Oxford and Islington O2 Academies, Dingwalls, Camden Town and the Marlow Festival.

They have a 4 track EP of powerful, melodic rock songs and plan to release their first single in late 2014/early 2015.

Music critic John Devereux writes: ‘Central to the band’s live appeal are songs that will get under your skin, delivered by the irresistible force of Colman’s arresting voice and Chantler’s immaculate guitar work, all underpinned by the tight, powerful rhythm section provided by Butler and Sims…..The magic of this band is undeniable. Authentic, spot-on musicianship and songs and performances that will haunt you. They are destined for the big arena.’

HIGH TIME FOR STADIUM GIG

Big Sound Oxford rockers Invisible Vegas go down well at Ace Space (Newbury, June 21st 2014)

INVISIBLE VEGAS have an easy charm. The man responsible for this is lead singer Alex Colman, who I feel sure would make a 50,000 festival crowd feel like they were, as Sinatra used to say, in his own backyard. And it’s that large stadium that you can’t help feeling these likeable lads deserve.

Unashamedly happy to get on with the business of rock and roll, Vegas take on the world and its fools in exactly the way you want a big sounding band to do.  And that happily still resonates with the crowd on a hot solstice evening in Newbury.

Vegas’ foundations are solidly constructed from fine American blues and rock, and you got the feeling that when they got to Rosie, a Rubber Soul-style 12 bar, they’d stopped off at mum’s for a proper square meal. …by the time we reached the originals Invisible Vegas had us in their collective palm.

Colman’s voice is a US-friendly Bono-ish lilt.  The song-writing is assured (Skin and Bones was my fave) and went down well with the Ace Space crowd. The passion of their vocals is such that you feel they still have their spirit intact.

The other important thing about this outfit is that they can handle three-part harmonies with ease, which, apart from giving the proceedings a welcome country tinge, opens out the sonic possibilities to something on the way to CSNY grandeur.

If you need reassurance about the future of our rock heritage then get yourself hooked up to an Invisible Vegas drip-feed this summer.
