KALA

About

Just two rascally youts trying to make some soul food. Back in 1976, there was a fire eater and man who walked on glass. They worked together in a travelling circus, and didn’t always see eye to eye. By the end of the tour they thought they’d seen the last of each other. Little did they know that their children would happen upon each other 40 years later, would strike up a remarkable friendship, and then start creating sweet soul food together. KALA is fresh on the London music scene, being previously known as the Collective, they are made up of Emer Dineen, Michael Crean & their 6 piece band. Emer & Michael met in the summer of 2014, and though, being mainly a creative duo, quickly built one of the most talented bands around them. Both have creativity running through their bones, with Michael studying composition at Trinity Laban, and Emer studying at the Royal School of Speech and Drama. They have developed a sound that incorporates Michael’s jazz roots, Emer’s soul roots and their love of funk and electronic music. Michael’s desert Island records would be Mozart, Flying Lotus & Bill Evans. Emer’s are Gershwin, Muddy Waters and Bonobo. They have been working with top producer Aaron Horn at Sarm Studios.
