Laura Reznek

About

Laura Reznek is a Canadian singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose smoky soprano and piano-driven songs give life to a cast of characters you might not always want to meet. She was introduced to the violin at a young age by classical music loving parents, thus beginning a long love affair with sound. Always tinkering with some sort of instrument, she discovered the piano, spending a lot of time alone in her bedroom listening to the greats. Currently based in London, England, she is hard at work on some new projects and has recently returned from her first European tour, promoting her newest album, Who Came Before Us.

At the age of seventeen, she moved to France with only a guitar for company and wrote the tracks for her first EP, Red Trains and Paper Cranes, which she recorded upon her return to Canada in 2010 with producer Jordan Esau. In 2012, they co-produced her second EP, How Strange to Find You Here, after which she embarked on her first tour of Canada, dipping down into the US to play at the famed Duplex theatre in New York City.

Laura’s unique brand of cabaret-pop has matured into a seamlessly surprising host for her equally arresting stories. In October 2014, she released her second album, Who Came Before Us. Produced by Jordan Esau, in collaboration with Audiogator Productions, the album features Samuel Romero, Mark Brown, & Hayato Kubo – Laura’s core group for the past two years. The songs cycle through multiple perspectives to explore the ways in which we are both tied down by the histories of those who came before us, and responsible for the histories of those that will come after us.
