Rad Orchestra

About

Rad Orchestra are a London-based band with a distinctive sound, working in an area where pop, folk, desert blues, classical, soul, blues and funk overlap.

The music has been described as ‘hypnotic tunes with strings’, but like any thumbnail this description leaves a lot out.

The instrumentation includes vocals, ngoni ,guitar, fiddle, violins, viola, mandolin, bass and drums/percussion.

The Rad Orchestra have completed an album to be released in 2017. They are currently working on an EP of acoustic cover versions of iconic dance songs such as Fat Boy Slim’s ‘Right Here Right Now’ https://vimeo.com/141585254 (not yet released).

The sound of the Rad Orchestra has evolved over five years of performing, mainly in London. Recent venues have included Wilton’s Music Hall, Hackney Attic, Troubadour, Bedroom Bar, Jamboree, Chat’s Palace and the Finsbury. Festival experience includes Elderflower Fields (twice), Standon Calling and Shambala.

Radio appearances include Resonance FM’s Relatively Good Radio Show and Madera Verde on SOAS Radio.

Rad Orchestra contributed two pieces to a film’s score directed by Simon Blake who recently won Best Director at the 12th London Independent Film Festival for his first feature film Still (starring Aidan Gillen). Still was premiered at Galway Film Fleah in July 2014, winning Best International First Feature award and has gone to general release in the UK. Simon also directed the following clip for Rad Orchestra song Spinweed, which has had almost 142,000 views on YouTube:
