The five guys of Southbound finally came together as a complete band over the period of 2012/2013 after meeting up just a few times a month for jamming sessions along with at the time, various current and past members. Initially just playing together for fun and enjoyment, then in its current form, gelling as firm friends and realising a common bond and the love of the Blues and Southern Rock, which was influenced by the likes of Clapton, Hendrix, Peter Green, Allman Brothers, Muddy Waters and alike.
2014 was a great first full year for the band, kept busy with regular gigging in local pubs and clubs in and around the Hertfordshire area, initially playing an interesting rare set of covers by the afore mentioned artists and an unexpected mature choice of material from such young guys. A sound which seemed to appeal to the more mature listener and a good healthy following started.
Thankfully these gigs turned into repeat gigs in many of the venues played, On the back of those gigs a couple of hugely enjoyable local festivals came along and they gained confidence to slowly introduce some of their own material into their sets, indeed their first festival slot in the summer of 2014 comprised purely of their own songs.
2014 finished on an exciting high with recorded live demo recordings of two of their songs, Lover Boy Blues and Tell Me What a Man’s Gotta do, both of which excitedly have, and continue to receive FM airplay and internet station plays here in the UK, Europe the USA and as far afield as New Zealand and Australia and their 7 Track EP has been well received and getting air play on varied Radio stations around the UK and Europe and also led to a Live appearance on BBC Introducing 3 counties.
2015 was far more in excess than the guys could have hoped for, in only their second proper year, with gigs and festivals and some exciting support openings for talented artists: Larry Miller, The Skammers, Shooter, The excellent Aidan Connell and the band of a generation “The Blockheads” at the wonderful Watford Colosseum.
Also in 2015 they were fortunate to have some fantastic London visits and play at to some truly iconic venues, The Troubadour in Earls Court, The Spice of Life in Soho, The Hope and Anchor, The Fiddlers Elbow N1, The Garage N1, The George Tavern E1 and Excitingly the 100 Club, Half Moon Putney and The Borderline. Locally The Horn St Albans and The Watford Colosseum, The Hertford Corn Exchange and other well attended local venues.
Thankfully, 2016 and 2017 have both continued in the same vein with some exciting return dates at those aforementioned iconic venues: The Troubadour Earls Court, The 100 Club, The Borderline and Half Moon Putney and also supporting the Blockheads, Red Butler, Albany Down, Laurence Jones, Martin Turners Wishbone Ash and Frankie millers Full House.
Fantastic new opportunities have also arisen at the Blues Rhythm and Rock Festivals in Wolverhampton, Doncaster, Durham, Cleethorpes and Harpenden appearing with a really strong line up of top class acts, King King, Kyla Brox, Corkie Laing, Laurence Jones, Climax Blues Band, and Connie Lush to name a few, and in 2017 The Great British Rock and Blues Festival where they played the Introducing stage and have been invited back to Headline stage in 2018 in front of 3000 people.
They are currently un signed and have proudly released a 7 track EP, which has been recorded initially with Aidan Connell at Goldmine Studios and then recorded, mixed and mastered by the excellent Steve Honest at Hackney Road Studios, 7 tracks to show the styles and breadth of the music they write and play. They have an exciting and growing repertoire of songs that they will be going on to record in 2017.
The average age of the band is 18/20, playing and writing their own quality Blues, Blues/Rock and Southern style Rock with a little something in between they realise, is not the popular norm, But there is a resurgence of British Blues and they will continue their path. They have noticed their style of music has started to cut across the age gaps at their gigs, and appear that they are well received by music buffs of all ages. They are Professional, Reliable, Friendly and Easy to work with and above all entertaining and love playing live.
