Strange Currencies

About

Something strange, something eloquent, refreshing, rhythmical and blissful. From their acoustic sets to full on indie rock sounds. Sounds like… Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, progressive REM….

Formed in early 2016 in Nottingham, UK as an acoustic duo, the band has gone on to complete a 27 date acoustic tour of the Midlands. PP Johnson brings his words, production knowledge and masterful voice to a combined sound that can only be described as Strange Currencies. Claudine West is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/producer. Often performing with mandolin and drums.

2017 saw the addition of Derby guitarist, Andrew Death and finger smith Steve Canner on bass. Robert ‘Too Tall’ Batchelor regularly joins in on harmonica.  Strange Currencies were December 2017 Rock Grand Final Winners and Indie Rock Winners for track ‘Carnival Of Fools.’ from their debut album ‘Making Monsters’ on Ourstage. This eclectic  band can adapt and jump from acoustic sets to full rock set up.

PRESS (as acoustic DUO)

‘The incredibly creative and original STRANGE CURRENCIES will also be taking to the stage; prepare for PP Johnson’s resounding vocals and Claudine West’s extraordinary musical skills on the guitar, mandolin, and basically any instrument! The dynamic of the two being ex-Rock band members but making beautiful Folk music together is delicious, strange, but intriguing. In a few words, it’s like Foo Fighters gone Peter Gabriel!’  Nusic 2017
