The Azaleas

About

The Azaleas formed in early 2013 after Luke Dooley, inspired by his friend – producer and sound artist Tim Bamber – decided to filter through the collection of songs he had amassed in over 10 years of writing. Having recorded almost all of them and selected the silver bullets, Doolan put together The Azaleas, and has since been crafting a radical romantic sound, inspired by 80s guitar bands such as The Cure, The Go-Betweens and Orange Juice, as well as alt. country giants such as Ryan Adams and Howe Gelb.

The Azaleas's recordings can be heard at https://soundcloud.com/theazaleas These include both full-band studio tracks and live acoustic numbers.

The band made an awesome video for the song 'Frankie's in His Martinette' (see link), rocked The Good Ship in Kilburn, and headlined a charity event at The Stag's Head in Hoxton, but disbanded in April 2014. Undeterred, Dooley has continued the project in solo mode, kickstarting the next chapter with a stripped down acoustic show at The Comedy in Leicester Square. The Azaleas' 5-track debut EP 'Frankie' was released in November last year alongside a video for the song 'Coke and Fries'.

The Azaleas played his first gig for Hotvox on Saturday 11th October 2014  as part of the all-day takeover at Bloomsbury Lanes, later visiting The Lucky Pig to perform at their Tuesday acoustic night 'Moonshine'. He has since played at nights organised by fellow acts-on-the-rise White Heath and Trecco Beis, as well as Paradise, Kensal Green among other venues. He returns to Acklam Village Market on 20th March and will be delighted to plat The Strongroom, Shoreditch on 16th April
