About

Formed in September 2023, The Elephant Cage are a five-piece art-rock/post-punk band from Southsea, Portsmouth. Fronted by Tokyo-born Asako, they feature husband Stephen on bass, guitarists Andy and Steve, and Versell on drums. Having built a strong local following through regular gigs in Portsmouth and then in London, they are now looking to take their distinctive sound further afield. Their influences span Wire, Bloc Party, The Cure, The Fall, The Pixies, Talking Heads and The Velvet Underground. The result is an eclectic, guitar-driven mix of post-punk energy, dark atmosphere, melody and introspective lyrics, delivered with intensity with a dark and moody identity.
