The Honey Ants

About

The Honey Ants are John Grimsey and Rebecca Hamer. The duo formed in April 2013 to play folk and country infused pop songs that are heavily influenced by 1960s and 1970s music, such as Simon and Garfunkel, Gram Parsons and The Mamas and Papas.

Having played for other musicians (including bass for Sufjan Stevens and a Glastonbury performance on guitar for Samantha Marais), John formed The Honey Ants to showcase his own songwriting talent alongside his songwriting partner Scott Mathieson. Things got off to a good start with the BBC using a home recording of their song ‘The Trouble With You’ in the TV show 'Off the Hook', Channel 4 using the track ‘Mister Sunlight’ in the series ‘Sirens’ and Tom Robinson spinning their tracks on BBC 6 Music.

This instant retro folk can be heard on the distinctive single 'Give Me Arms' – a lush, stripped back track featuring just acoustic guitar and vocals. Their recent cover of Nirvana's 'Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle' received rave reviews with Gigwise saying "the best Nirvana cover we've heard for wuite some time" and even featuring on Seattle's very own KNDD Radio.
