When frontman Joe Cocker and guitarist George Wilson spent their teenage years perfecting the art of songwriting together. They decided it was time to bring the sounds of their influences back into the modern world.
The first iteration of The Kites consisted of Joe, George and new found member Ethan Bennett on the drums. Ethan caught their eyes at a show with one of his previous bands, his heavy hitting rhythms and complex beats were inspired by the greats such as John Bonham and Keith Moon, and were exactly what the two were looking for.
It was at this time the group began to play their first shows. Comprised mostly of covers, their set was brought to venues all across plymouth, with a very warm reception, scoring them their first headline show, only a few months after their first performance. This inspired the three to hit the studio and record a single.
In April of 2020, Breakwater City was released to the public. With a steady build to the crescendo and a Pink Floyd-esque guitar solo, it was bound to please ears worldwide.
This gave The Kites an audience for the first time in their lives, so they recruited bassist, Ben Cooke, and began to prepare an Originals set over lockdown.
The moment COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, The Kites hit the ground running, playing music festivals in Cornwall over the summer of 2021, and releasing their second single, Arrive.
Joe and co are currently in the studio preparing materials for 2022, year of The Kites.
