The Lemon lovers

About

Born in 2012 in the vibrant city of Oporto, Portugal, The Lemon Lovers is a non-compromising, old-fashioned power trio with the genuine soul of legendary rock, a firm grasp of current and past sounds, and a very energy-driven, in-your-face live performance.

As many a great act, João Silva (vocals, guitar) and Victor Butuc (drums) met while in college, and their similar musical taste drove them to start playing together for fun. Soon, came the calling for stage and audiences, an incessant hunger that took the duo on the road for as many times as it was possible. Yet something was amiss, and while working on the material to record their first, self-edited EP “Hangover” (2013), the missing piece that glued everything together was found in Andrés Malta (bass, backing vocals), who joined the band during the recording process.

In September 2014 the band started working on their debut album, and after pre-production sessions, between shows and a successfully crowd-funded campaign, the band traveled to Estudios Reno (Madrid) to start recording their debut long format piece. With Braiz González assuming engineering and mixing duties, and Brian Lucey (of The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Chat Faker – and many more – fame), taking charge of mastering at Magic Garden Mastering (Los Angeles, California), the band gave birth to “Loud, Sexy & Rude”, a work composed of 12 songs that reveals a more mature sound and a new image, leaving behind the “leather look” that defined their beginnings.

In anticipation of the European Tour for the record – which will see The Lemon Lovers play over 30 venues in 8 countries, Vasco Mendes directed the videoclip for the single “The 55″, a loaded, very rooted-sounding, good ol’ rock and roll number that perfectly sums up what this band is about: a thick pastiche of hard sonorities that, albeit a bit hard to label within any specific style, will be warmly familiar to the rock connoisseur. The videoclip also sets the tone and style for the band: an “all in” bet that reflects the beliefs and artistic sensibilities of the three members. “Loud, Sexy & Rude” is set to be released on March 27th, 2015, under the Sister Ray record label.
