April Henry & Thunderthief

About

April Henry and Thunderthief began collaborating online through a mutual friend, while April was living in Chicago. They both later lived in LA, but crossed paths only once. A year later, Thunderthief went on a Spiritual journey in the mountains and felt compelled to cut the trip short because he had a song in his head that needed to be made. He contacted April soon after he laid this idea down, while she was also on a journey of her own across the U.S. Call it synchronicity, fate, or dumb luck if you like. But whatever it is, it’s becoming an incredible music experience.

Raised five minutes from the rodeo in South Florida by two songwriter-musician parents, April began her music journey at the age of two. Her cross-genre artistry is drawn from the unique diversity of her upbringing and her many travels. From tender whispers to the anthemic, pouring out of a song, April is interested in the raw nerve that connects us as human beings. She moves from sultry, soulful ballads and fragile torch songs to bright and sparkly pop tunes or the driving beat of a dance remix—and everything in between. Called, a “funny, fierce, force of nature” by reviewers, she explores polarity and humor. Just when you think you’ve defined her niche, she can surprise you with something completely different—yet always April. An award-winning artist, garnering accolades in both singer and songwriter categories in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition (ISC) among others, April’s talents have been recognized by industry luminaries such as Peter Gabriel, Tom Waits, Adele, Robert Smith, and former Epic Records president Amanda Ghost. She uses her particular brand of theatricality and high-octane vocals to take audiences on an almost otherworldly rollercoaster. Her forthcoming album could be described as Rock/Pop/EDM with the presence of Soulful ballads.

Electricity floods into the venue when Casey Ottmann aka Thunderthief takes the stage. The Multi-Instrumentalist and Producer delights in throwing musical lightning bolts and rains down a sonic storm that brings listeners into a zone of spirit and sound that must be heard to be experienced. The genre of Thunderthief’s music is tough to pin down, as Ottmann paints a journey using all the colors of his collective influences and experiences. Galloping across grassy plains of House, sailing on rolling seas of Indie Folk and Emo, basking on tropical beaches of downtempo jungle jams, and even climbing peaks into Progressive Metal and Jazz.

Thunderthief’s dynamic sound design, driven by the groovy bass and melodic focus, rained down a torrent of incendiary performances in 2017. Red Gorilla Music Festival, Electric Forest, The Great Depressurization, and several headlining performances. Thunderthief reached #13 on iTunes Dance Charts with the ethereally cadenced single Closer on Ninety9Lives. A maelstrom of ruthlessly funky, bust-your-heart-open beats that make you want to seize the day and boogie down 'til sunrise.
