Today’s Daily Discovery is ‘Musty Shirts’ by Carmelita
Carmelita is a guitar driven power-pop band from Madrid with a folksie heartland twist.
The band, formed in 2019 by Patrick Kilbride (vocals and guitar), Alex Garcia (lead guitar), Bruno Motta (bass) and Ricardo Costa (drums) was initially inspired by the urgent folk punk sounds of bands such as Against Me! Or Japandroids.
However, in their latest release: “Losercore” the band has embraced a poppier sound mixed with a 90s alt-rock sheen reminiscent of bands such as Teenage Fanclub, Weezer or Wilco in their “Being there” era.
The songs are characterized by driving rhythm guitars combined with jangley, atmospheric leads, a tight and unrelenting rhythm section, and dry dark lyrics that focus on failure and redemption.
