So here at Hot Vox we’re slowing things down and really taking the time to check out one of our favourite new acts.
Today we do a Deep Dive into Krooked Tongue
Formed in 2019, Krooked Tongue released their celebrated debut single ‘I Wanna Steal Your Car’ the same year, which soon saw them embark on their first UK tour. 2020 saw the cancellation of their second UK tour and the postponement of shows alongside the likes of Dinosaur Pile-Up and Turbowolf, as well as festival slots at Boardmasters and 2000 Trees. They instead spent their time honing in on a more refined studio sound with Josh Gallop of Phoxjaw at Stage 2 Studios in Bath, working to help replicate their formidable live act.
This Bristol band debuted in 2019 and Krooked Tongue’s debut single was followed with critical acclaim. From the outset, the 3-piece alternative rock band grew quickly to gain much recognition. They have received multiple plays on BBC Introducing as well as performing several headline shows.
After 2020 saw many cancellations and postponements, Krooked Tongue have made up for this with a busy 2022. This has included the release of another single, a debut EP and a 2022 summer tour.
The start of this year was off with a bang for Krooked Tongue. February of 2022 saw the release of the band’s debut EP, titled ‘No Vacancy Hotel’. The EP consists of four tracks each which creates its own standalone moment. However, when listened to in sequential order, the songs come together for take the listener on a musical journey. The EP provides a compilation of stories that define Krooked Tongue as musicians.
The EP is bursting with sound. The pulsing drumbeats and heavily-distorted guitars are driving to represent the grittier identity of the band. Despite, the added heaviness in the instrumentals of their EP, the singers vocals remain moody but crooning.
On the 29th July, Krooked Tongue released ‘When The Beaches Bleed’. The single represents the band perfectly. The chaos that ensues throughout the duration of the song only to eventually pass to tranquillity towards the end captures the meaning of the track. The slightly turbulent journey only drives you to carry on. It is exciting and inspiring at the same time, a track that ignites an energy inside you.
Krooked Tongue are storytellers that will captivate you. Between the punchy drums, catchy guitar riffs and smooth melodic vocals, Krooked Tongue are a band you don’t want to miss out on.
