Outland

With the amount of emerging talent currently bursting onto the scene, it can be hard to keep up with the hottest new acts.

So here at Hot Vox we’re slowing things down and really taking the time to check out one of our favourite new acts.

Today we do a Deep Dive into Outland.

Outland are an award winning Alternative Rock 3 – piece from East London merging the genres of Rock, Funk and Punk to bring a new eclectic sound to the forefront. Outland won Roundhouse’s Unsigned Artist of 2021 and are currently in the process of recording their debut EP after key radio play from the likes of Radio X & Amazing Radio.

So Far Away

Outland

The past year has been incredibly busy for the band Outland. The 3-piece alternative rock band have competed in multiple competitions, released two new singles, all whilst playing sold out shows around London.

Band members Joe, Lewis and Marco took part and made it to the grand final of Hot Vox’s New Blood competition for the Isle of Wight Festival. They will also be returning to the Roundhouse Music Festival, after winning the unsigned competition last year. It is achievements like these that have put Outland on the map.

The trio describe their music as a fusion of funk, rock, punk and metal. Their eclectic influences from ‘Sinatra to Santana’ can be heard in their music. Due to the wide range of musical styles Outland’s music is varied and incredibly entertaining. Listening to their singles you can fully experience the different sides of the band members musical styles. Particularly the difference in their debut singles and most recently released music. Whilst their earlier tracks were slightly softer with instrumental punk and metal elements. Outland’s new music has more edge, and I have to say it really suits them. The heavier rock and metal influences adds depth to the music.

Outland’s latest single, ‘So Far Away’, was released in March 2022 and is an explosion of their creativity. It is evident that the track has been carefully curated to showcase the wealth of talent from all three members of the band. There is the perfect balance of instrumentals and vocals. While a more intense song compared to their other singles, ‘So Far Away’ is a musical representation of the trio.

‘So Far Away’ begins with an organ-like chordal harmony, this sets the tone for the whole track. It brings something serene to the song that ultimately juxtaposes to the rest of the song. The distortion from the guitars incites an angry perspective. However, when listened to in conjunction with the initial chords, prompts a more melancholy context to the track.

Perhaps you have already heard this band during one of their plays on Radio X and Amazing Radio. However, I can only imagine how incredible they sound live. The 13th August is not a date to be missed. Outland will be headlining the O2 Islington. I would get tickets quickly before this becomes another of Outland’s sold-out shows.
