DEEP DIVE // The Ilfords

With the amount of emerging talent currently bursting onto the scene, it can be hard to keep up with the hottest new acts.

So here at Hot Vox we’re slowing things down and really taking the time to check out one of our favourite new acts.

Today we do a Deep Dive into The Ilfords

The boys hit the North East music scene hard early, releasing the anthemic Dirty Little Saint to local acclaim in 2014 and following it up with the What Have You Done? EP two years later. Seasoned veterans on the live circuit, they subjected countless Tyneside crowds to their high energy alt-rock formula between 2012 and 2017, putting together an impressive following across their social media channels along the way.

After a long hiatus, the Ilfords reemerged in 2019, staging an emphatic return to live music with a raucous headline show. Equipped with a killer combination of heavy chords and lyrics that would make the Pope blush, the lads are back out for blood this year.

Something She Said to Me

The Ilfords

After a long hiatus, in 2019, THE ILFORDS returned for more high energy gigs and heavy, fast-paced indie rock tunes. The band was formed in Newcastle way back in 2012. They spent a few years releasing their debut single and EP and frequenting the live circuit around Newcastle. After a break that began in 2017, they are now back and raring to go.

THE ILFORDS are a 4-piece alternative/indie rock band, echoing the likes of Arctic Monkeys. Their music is loaded with distorted guitar riffs and conscious but comic lyrics. The energy emanating from their music is only intensified when played live. The stage, band members and music come alive through their playing. You can feel the excitement flowing from THE ILFORDS being back on stage again.

Although they are originally Newcastle based, they have branched out to further afield. In recent years they have played sold out shows in London including the Camden Assembly and have just completed part 1 of their New Wave tour. They travelled around the UK to Cambridge, Edinburgh and Liverpool to perform.

The tour followed the release of their latest single, ‘Something She Said To Me’. The single is electrifying from the outset. It begins with a strong drum beat and dramatic guitar riff, which continues throughout the song. All features of the track – lyrics, instrumentals and breaks – are carefully placed to create a powerful and driving song. The strength of ‘Something She Said To Me’ leads me to believe that the next songs from THE ILFORDS will be fantastic. Making the band one to watch.

The first part of the New Wave tour was such a success that hopefully, part 2 will be arriving very soon. Before that happens, you can check them out on their Spotify. And why not go even further to buy some of their own merchandise. Be sure to keep an eye on these guys as they continue to produce killer songs and sell out thrilling gigs.
