Today’s FRESH FIND is Claudillea

Self-described as a ‘new wave opera fusion artist’, Claudillea is giving Opera it’s much needed 21st Century rebrand.

The artist first broke onto the scene with success on The Voice UK in 2020 having first been chosen by Meghan Trainor but later being stolen by Will.I.Am. She now finds herself with over 11K monthly listeners on Spotify and hundreds of thousands of streams. I have to say, I am so glad to see someone so different making the big waves she deserves, I only hope more people indulge themselves in her transcendental soundscapes. In her own words, she does what she wants. And I couldn’t agree more. Unrestricted by the conventions of modern commercial pop and breaking free from the traditions of opera, Claudillea finds herself weaving the bests parts of both genres to create something totally unique and original. But with so much more to give, the inventive creator fuses her empowering messages seamlessly with her sound to create something truly rare.

What I find particularly exhilarating about the boundary-breaking artist is how you cannot anticipate her next move. Every song she writes is different from the last. Each composed with a limitless defiance, revealing more into the layers of her life and her sound. I keep coming back to Habenera- a track on her latest EP ‘Chaos Is My Best Friend’. What an utterly perfect example of innovation. Putting a whole different perspective on something so old and making it unexpectedly fresh. I could see it in a movie – much like lots of Claudillea’s music.

The independent artist writes with defiance and if you want to join in me in listening to someone who breaks the mould (which I really think you should) then I would first recommend her song ‘Release You’. A complete breath of escapism. A journey away from the conventional. And a deep dive into something otherworldly. Please, bless your ears with her ethereal vocals before soaking yourself in the rest of her wonderful EP.
