FRESH FINDS // SHELANA AZORA

Looking for playlist inspiration? Bored with all your favourites and looking for new ones? Wanting to discover the freshest talent on the scene?

We’ve got you covered. Here at Hot Vox, we’re giving you the lowdown on the best artists you need to be listening to!

Today’s FRESH FIND is Shelana Azora.

We’re switching it up this week with East London artist, Shelana Azora. Refreshingly herself, Shelana writes with a freedom you don’t often find in other artists. Still with a recognisably hip-hop/RnB flavour, Shelana cannot be pigeon-holed into one style. Influenced by the likes of Lauryn Hill and Aaliyah, the singer/songwriter creates tune after tune. Mixing the best parts of Old Skool sounds with a modern take, everything she produces is perfectly and authentically her.

Shelana has got a really listenable voice. Which as a compliment doesn’t do her any justice because not only does her music make you want to get up and dance, her lyricism is strong and expresses her journey with self-love – this is particularly
apparent in her debut EP ‘Epiphany’. But it has to be said that for all the best songwriting in the world, a great voice (like Shelana’s) makes it all that much sweeter to listen to.

As a first introduction to the wonderfully talented artist, her EP is a lovely place to start. My favourite track of the EP is ‘Senses’. It’s got one of those classic RnB chord progressions combined with a fresh hard-hitting beat and on top of that, the chorus is one of those that gets stuck in your head (in the best way possible). Completely relatable in her writing, despite the song being released as a single in 2018, the song is still just as relevant and fresh today and well worth an add to your playlists. But don’t stop listening there because this artist has a whole discography of greatness that NEEDS to be discovered!

Having just had a gig at the Piano Smithfield, it was not one to be missed! A truly energetic and charismatic performer – you have to catch her next gig! And if you can’t wait until her next gig then head on over to her youtube channel and catch her latest music video ‘No Luv’. I would highly recommend treating yourself to a binge-watch of all her videos because not only is she an incredible
singer/songwriter she is clearly the whole creative package!

Shelana Azora

Hailing from her hometown in East London, the emerging singer-songwriter Shelana Azora is ready to take the UK’s R&B/Hip-Hop scene by storm.

Inspired by the Old Skool sounds of Lauryn Hill and Aaliyah to the modern likes of Rihanna— Shelana’s distinctive style is reflected in her debut EP entitled ‘Epiphany’ which serves as the first introduction of Shelana Azora as an artist. She effortlessly hones her natural flow of singing and rapping; from the 8-bar rap freestyle in “The Most” to the delicate “Free” with its uplifting Gospel-like outro, accompanied by infectious hard-hitting beats and metaphorical lyricism to illustrate her journey of self-love across the record.
